Up the Kingdom...without a stroller!

Our attempt at a selfie-see the teeny tiny Cinderella Castle in the background?

My oldest is starting Kindergarten this year. She will be in one of my colleagues classrooms. I am ecstatic, yet saddened by the thought of my baby getting older. She is 5, and therefore is (usually) too big for a stroller.

So last week, she and I ventured to the Magic Kingdom-just the two of us. A Big Girl's Day Out, if you will. This is the first time since before my husband and I were married, I have gone ANYWHERE without a stroller. I managed to snag a fastpass for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, so I figured it was a great day for us to venture stroller-less to MK. Little sister attended daycare that day and had a special daddy-daughter night since she was not tall enough to do most of the rides we did.

This picture is the last time that day until late afternoon we could do without our ponchos (grab some from Dollar Tree to take with you-Florida is tropical, it will rain almost every day at some point and the Disney ones cost $14!). It rained. And rained. And rained. I heard a tourist at one point say "It's pouring out there". Oh poor gentle soul who obviously has not spent much time in the Sunshine State. When it pours in Florida, it rains so hard it rains back up. Thank goodness it was a gentle, but unrelenting, shower.
Mickey's how to fill your magic (aka Mickey's Philharmagic) is a favorite. Evelyn is wet and waiting for this show.

Waiting for the Festival Of Fantasy parade.. Since it was raining, we only lined up a mere 15 minutes before the parade-people will get their spots up to an hour in advance most days.

I can't believe how EASY Disney is without a stroller! I know we won't get away with this on most visits, but WOW! No parking, No running into anyone, No finding the stroller again after the minor heart attack that it might be lost but it turns out a Cast Member had simply moved it... I missed Sofia with us, but NOT the stroller!

I haven't watched a parade in years. My husband (then boyfriend) and I would use this opportunity to get on rides with minimal wait when we had our AP years ago. We found out that this trick doesn't work so well for the hot ticket attractions-Meet Anna and Elsa and Mine Train. I was very impressed! There is nothing like BEING THERE and watching the joy on your lo's face as her favorites *GASP* ANNA and ELSA WAVED AT HER!!! The Maleficent as a dragon float-OMG!!!! It breathes Fire! It is UH-MAY-ZING! I can't wait to see it again!

We tried Haunted Mansion. Um...nope...not again for a while. Some ding dong teenagers who were being, well, teenagers. Were screaming as though they were being murdered and completely set the wrong tone for my 5 year old. At least I got that one last ride for a while-Haunted Mansion is one of my favorites!
Of course, we had to meet a few characters:

Lots of adventure that day-Even a minor (almost not minor) meltdown because I refused to wait 90 minutes to see Anna and Elsa. But that's the way the cookie crumbles with a five year old.

Q T Pie!

At Enchanted Tales with Belle

Le Fou's Brew Not a favorite :-(

I do not recommend your 5 yo driving-it is HARD! If I had to push that hard on the gas, we would never go anywhere! Great for giggles, though!

After leaving Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
We girls had a great time. And I might add that I have quite the daredevil. We rode both Mine Train and Splash Mountain! Both of which she pleaded with me to do again! Next time sweetheart!

Our First Family Adventure into the Magic Kingdom

I simply adore Disney!
But I first must say, this blog is all about me and my family's trips into The Walt Disney World Resort. Nothing here is sanctioned by Disney-just me and my opinions. I certainly hope I can give you some useful tips and tricks for all the Resort, but chances are, you may have heard them before.

Our "YEAR of DISNEY" (as I have dubbed it-also referred to as #disneylife ) all started because my husband won a trip, through his employer, to stay at the (drum roll, please!) Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. Wow, right? If you are not familiar-check it out! (you are allowed and encouraged to visit all Disney property) We have always enjoyed visiting this resort around the holidays. Here is where they display the "life-sized" gingerbread house. It is amazing-so much detail! (Pics will be posted later this year!) And, you can buy parts of it-gingerbread tastes better at Disney (well, doesn't everything?).

The resort is beautiful, and only a short monorail ride away from the Magic Kingdom.
The monorail passed right by the Grand Floridian.

My girls are true Disney fans-the monorail is a ride too!

My husband's employer treated all the families to a reception at the Grand Floridian. The kids all got a special Bibbidi Bobbidi menu-complete with Mickey Ears Rice Krispie treat for dessert!

After much discussion, we opted to become Annual Pass Holders to the Walt Disney World Resort. To my knowledge, this is available for Florida Residents (I believe CA has an AP for it's residents).
And thus begins our YEAR of DISNEY
#disneylife

Below I will share some highlights form our first foray into the World of Disney. And, yes, of course we met many Disney characters and Princesses, but that is an entry in and of itself! I also will share what I packed for my 3 and 5 year old for the day trips.

(These photos are in no particular order-I have both my cell phone and my handheld cameras with me. Just a little warning in case you are OCD about that (-;  )

Sofia loved riding Dumbo!

I was very happy to discover this prop right near the exit of Dumbo. How else could you possibly get a picture like this? (well, safely!)

In all rides, if I took a picture, I made sure not to use the flash. Pics still came out OK and I was not asked to leave ;-)

A Magic Kingdom MUST-Dole Whip! (sorry for the fuzzy picture...grrrr)
